On 3rd June 2019, we were notified by Peru’s Ministry of Culture of an update to the entrance rules for the citadel of Machu Picchu. The new rules will affect all visitors entering Machu Picchu from this date forward.

Following a two-week trial period in May, the Ministry of Culture have now permanently imposed limited visiting times for certain attractions within the park. The following visiting times will now be imposed:

  • Intiwatan or Sun Dial Pyramid (Pirámide del Intiwatana): Accessible from 07.00 to 10.00 hrs
  • Temple of the Condor (Templo del Condor): Accessible from 10.00 to 13.00 hrs
  • Temple of the Sun (Templo del Sol) – Accessible from 13.00 to 16.00 hrs

These new times have been implemented to limit the amount of congestion by visitors in the smaller / tighter areas of the citadel and to also help preserve the integrity of Machu Picchu for future visitors.
